I enjoy the work I do and I always do my utmost to improve the quality of life for women that I look after.

I trust this website will give you information to make the right decisions regarding your health and wellbeing. I believe in shared decision making regarding your health. A good knowledge base empowers us and allows us to make informed decisions about our care.

About Dr Tava

Dr Tava Mudzamiri

MBChB (Honours), MRCOG, FRANZCOG

I trained in the United Kingdom as a specialist Obstetrician and Gynaecologist. On completion of training in the UK I worked in Scotland with a special interest in advanced laparoscopic surgery and gynaecology oncology. This has driven my passion as a gynaecologist looking after women with diverse conditions as menstrual disorders, endometriosis, pelvic pain and gynaecological cancer. As an advanced laparoscopic surgeon, I believe that the key to a successful outcome for women is to provide the right treatment for the right woman at the right time.

I have a broad private and public practice covering obstetrics, advanced benign gynaecology surgery, endometriosis surgery, vulval and vaginal surgery and minimal invasive surgery. I am a member of Australasia Gynaecological Endoscopy and Surgery Society (AGES) and the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE). I am the current Clinical Director for Gynaecology at Waikato Hospital and an Educational Supervisor with RANZCOG with a desire to see the improvement of Women’s Health in Hamilton.

After working as a consultant for 6 years in the United Kingdom my family and I moved to New Zealand in 2017. We moved to New Zealand for its beautiful welcoming atmosphere and fell in love with its family friendly lifestyle.

General gynaecology

There are a range of problems that affect women's reproductive system including the following conditions – abnormal vaginal bleeding, cervical polyps, chronic pelvic pain, endometrial hyperplasia, endometriosis, fibroids, menopause ovarian cysts, polycystic ovaries, prolapse and vulval skin conditions.

Risk reduction surgery

Cancer prevention in women has evolved over recent years together with the development of clinical genetics. We can now identify specific markers and genes that can predict the likelihood of developing gynaecological cancers. Risk reduction surgery is undertaken after thorough assessment and discussion to prevent cancers affecting women including uterine cancer and ovarian cancer.

Colposcopy

Colposcopy involves using a specialised microscope to have a look at your cervix. This is an important assessment especially in women who have abnormal smear or a cervix that looks abnormal on general gynaecology examination. The colposcope is also used in the assessment of women with vaginal and vulvar skin problems.

General preconception counselling and antenatal care

General preconception care involves looking after your health before pregnancy and planning your pregnancy. I feel it is important to be well informed about your health and how your health will influence and be influenced when you are pregnant.

Antenatal care is the care you will receive when you are pregnant. It involves looking after your health needs and the health needs of your unborn baby.
